Fire at Vacant Manchester Home Under Investigation

Manchester, NH; Manchester Fire Department began receiving calls at 10:07 for smoke coming from a building located on Central Street. Firefighters arrived on scene within 2 minutes and encountered a fire on the top floor of a two and a half story residential structure. Due to the extreme heat, Command Requested a 2ND Alarm assignment for additional manpower to relieve the crews inside the building. Description of Incident: Arriving companies encountered a fire on the top floor of a two and a half story residential structure. Fire had extended into multiple concealed spaces requiring extensive overhaul.
The building had been vacant for an extensive period of time and was inhabited by squatters.
Civilian Injuries: There were no civilian injuries.
Emergency Service Injuries: None reported
Special Circumstances: Weather conditions made frequent rotation of personnel a necessity. The apartment was also strewn with drug paraphernalia which required extreme caution to protect personnel.
