Fire Damages Old Lows Building In Manchester

A fire caused damage to the Old Lowes in Manchester this morning.

According to Manchester Fire, MFD received numerous 911 calls reporting a fire at this location. Uponarrival by the members of Station 3 at Harvey Rd, one minute after dispatch there was bothsmoke and fire showing from the front/left side of the building. Heavy smoke had alreadyadvanced into the structure. Fire was beginning to advance into the structure and had alreadyextended to the roof area.

Incident Summary:MFD received numerous 911 calls reporting a fire at this location. Upon

arrival by the members of Station 3 at Harvey Rd, one minute after dispatch there was both

smoke and fire showing from the front/left side of the building. Heavy smoke had already

advanced into the structure. Fire was beginning to advance into the structure and had already

extended to the roof area. The forward progress of the fire was halted by the initial arriving crew

of Station 3. Additional crews from throughout the city arrived and assisted with opening up the

roof and extinguishing the remaining fire. MFD also assisted in ventilating the smoke consumed

commercial structure that is approximately 150 x 800, 1 story.

Any Special Features:This is the former Lowes building that is being partially demolished to

make way for a cinema. The building is currently vacant with the exception of construction

workers.

Remarks:the cause of the fire is determined to be accidental, it was caused by sparks from a

steel cutting operation that ignited nearby combustibles. All workers self evacuated before our

arrival.
