Fire damages garage at Manchester Home

Manchester Firefighters received a call this afternoon for a reported vehicle fire with extension. Firefighters determined that the owner of the home was performing some welding on an older vehicle in his attached 2 stall garage. He finished welding and went into the home for several minutes. When he returned to the garage he noticed the vehicle in flames inside of the garage.

Incident Summary: The owner of the home was performing some welding on an older vehicle in
his attached 2 stall garage. He finished welding and went into the home for several minutes.
When he returned to the garage he noticed the vehicle in flames inside of the garage. The fire
began to spread and takeover the attached garage. Two young men were travelling by when
they noticed the fire. They pulled into the driveway, the owner hooked up a tow chain to the
flaming vehicle in the garage and with their pickup truck the two young me who were passing by
pulled the flaming vehicle out of the garage preventing further damage to the home. The vehicle
is a total loss. The garage sustained approximately $5000.00 damage before Engine 3 from the
Harvey Road station arrived to extinguish the fire before it advanced into the living area of the
home.
